LSI Logic Storage Systems Raises the Price/Performance Bar for Entry Level Systems
New 2882 controller provides robust features, functionality and modular scalability for small to mid-range configurations.

MILPITAS, Calif., April 7, 2003 --- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. today introduced a new entry level controller designed to deliver significant price/performance benefits with robust features and functionality not typically available in small to mid-range configurations.

"Information is the lifeblood of enterprises of all sizes so it's essential that small to medium businesses have affordable access to enterprise-class storage," said Dianne McAdam, senior analyst and partner, Data Mobility Group. "With the announcement of this new controller, LSI Logic Storage Systems is satisfying this market demand by enabling its strategic partners to deliver outstanding price/performance for entry level systems."

The new 2882 controller will serve as a foundation for strategic partners who will integrate it into unique combinations of hardware, software and services for mission-critical applications in enterprise-class 2 gigabit per second Fibre Channel systems. Designed specifically for open systems environments, the new controller enables faster, more responsive applications that have the potential to significantly improve transaction rates and customer satisfaction. Its modular "pay as you grow" scalability lowers acquisition and expansion costs by making it possible to buy only what is needed and enables just-in-time purchasing as required for growth. Demanding capacity requirements will be satisfied by the controller's online scalability. Its 2 gigabit per second host-side connectivity supports direct-attached storage (DAS) or storage area network (SAN) configurations, while "always on" availability keeps data accessible to decrease the risk of downtime-related revenue loss.

"This exciting new offering is the culmination of more than two decades of design experience focused on delivering high performance storage to open systems customers around the world," said Flavio Santoni, vice president, sales, marketing and customer service, LSI Logic Storage Systems. "LSI Logic Storage Systems products have always been 'at the heart of information,' and this new controller demonstrates our ongoing commitment to making exceptional technology available to end users through our partners."

All LSI Logic Storage Systems' controllers, including the 2882, rely on LSI Logic Storage Systems' SANtricity® Storage Manager software for complete control over rapidly growing storage environments through centralized management, robust functionality and integrated consolidation and replication capabilities. Common firmware enables data written by one controller to be instantly recognized by others when a system upgrade or drive/module migration is required, providing valuable investment protection.
