Redundant, dual-active drive paths access the Fibre Channel or Serial ATA (SATA) drives - guaranteeing maximum performance and complete accessibility to all drives in the event of a loop or cable failure. All primary components in each drive module are customer replaceable and hot swappable. This includes the disk drives, cooling fans, power supplies and environmental services modules (ESMs). The ESMs deliver online information about component status, such as temperature, fan speed or faults, to the storage management software and provide the ability to cascade multiple drive modules to a single controller or array module.
FC4600 4Gb/s Fibre Channel Drive Module
The latest addition to the Engenio family of disk enclosures provides several key new features:
- Supports 16 Fibre Channel (2Gb/s or 4Gb/s) or SATA II (3 Gb/s) drives in a 3U enclosure – a 14 percent improvement in storage density in the same 3U of rack space
- Completes the 4Gb/s Fibre Channel architecture that began with the introduction of the 6998 storage system last February.
- Support for intermixing performance-optimized Fibre Channel drives and capacity-optimized SATA drives enables tiered storage in a single enclosure – lowering acquisition and maintenance costs and improving channel utilization.
- Unique SATA interface card's speed-matching technology enables each 3 Gb/s SATA II drive to function effectively as a 4 Gb/s drive - ensuring the 4 Gb drive module achieves maximum performance when intermixed with 4 Gb/s FC and 3 Gb/s SATA II drives.
- Embedded "loop switch" isolates each drive and enables more detailed and isolated diagnostic information to be gathered, thus simplifying analysis of drive and loop issues and improving uptime.
- Reduction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) compliance ensures that the FC4600 meets the highest environmental standards.
2Gb/s Fibre Chanel Drive Module
- Supports 14 2Gb/s Fibre Channel drives in a 3U enclosure
- Embedded "loop switch" isolates each drive and enables more detailed and isolated diagnostic information to be gathered, thus simplifying analysis of drive and loop issues and improving uptime.
